This capture just totally amazes me. How can Apophysis come up with such truly real looking eyes? And the outer skin – it looks reptilian. Very odd.

Fractal 347 – “Apophysis” defined by American Heritage Dictionary

One of my faves of my own work. Something of a cross between a fried egg and an eye. Very much modern art.

What is Apophysis?

The dictionary says:
a·poph·y·sis (-pf-ss)
n. pl. a·poph·y·ses (-sz)
1. Anatomy A natural swelling, projection, or outgrowth of an organ or part, such as the process of a vertebra.
2. Geology A branch from a dike or vein.
——————————————————————————–
[New Latin, from Greek apophusis, from apophuein, to send out branches : apo-, apo- + phuein, to grow; see bheu- in Indo-European roots.]
——————————————————————————–
a·pophy·sate (-st), a·pophy·seal (-sl) adj.

I love the way Apophysis generates what look like gemstones and jewelry. As I could never afford such a large, beautiful diamond on my salary (and the hub’s as well), these will have to do!  (By the way – my comment function setting is now corrected.  I welcome any comments you may have related to my work and entries.)

This fractal is by an acquaintance of mine named greylensman00 up on Flickr. He claims to be unskilled at fractal making and asks me for advice sometimes. LOL I’m thinking it needs to be the other way around! Way to go, Fred.

Sometimes Apophysis comes up with metallic fractals with great patterns. I particularly love this one from a set of three that I made.

Can you see the alien’s head? I couldn’t believe it when this image showed up in my program. Ends up this is a favorite already of my Flickr fans.

I decided I would first blog a few fractals, first some of my own, then some of my faves from other Flickr members. Then I’ll get about the business of blogging some of the awesome fractal-related websites I’ve found with tutorials and scripts. Enjoy!
